Differentiated Instruction:

Very simply, differentiated instruction is teaching with student differences in mind. It means starting where the kids are instead of using a standardized approach to teaching. It is "tailored to fit" instead of "one size fits all".

This session will highlight tools to pre-assess students and determine their learning styles and interests. The focus will be on using readily accessible technology in two areas where differentiation can occur - process and products.

A great site for information about differentiated instruction: http://daretodifferentiate.wikispaces.com/

Before Learning:

Pre-assessment - What do your students know?

Student Learning Styles - How do your students learn best?

Student Interests - What motivates your students?

During Learning:

Process Differentiation - How can I present or offer learning opportunities?

As a Result of Learning:

Product Differentiation - How can students show me that they understand?

Although this workshop doesn't focus particularly on special needs students, there is a great tool created and maintained by NCTI and CITEd for finding educational and assistive technology products for students with special needs. Technology Matrix
