  • Macs
  • Wireless - per Leon...A decent access point will run you aprox $100 to $160.  Don't know if you or Monty have a preference.  These are individually managed access points.  Of course you can go the more professional route and get a controller and managed access points.  It really depends on budget and future wireless plans.  You aren't out much with the cheaper ones and they can be used anywhere.  The new 802.11n protocol gives much better performance and you can get them with two bands to broadcast 802.11g and 802.11n at the same time.  Older b and g computers can receive one signal and n computers can receive the other. We are looking at the Linksys 610N AP/Router.  It is one of the top rated AP's on the market right now.  It runs $157.31 at Flor. Micro

Anti-Virus - per Leon... emailed Monty a quote for Sophos.  If that is too high there are some that are cheaper.  I just stressed to him that it is prohibited to use most of the free anti viruses in a school setting.  We were using it here when I arrived and I think every school at one time or another did but it is something that may get you in trouble if caught.

I did find an AV called Comodo that is supposed to be 100% free.  Haven't used it but another tech told me about it.

AVG will be one of the better priced anti viruses and is very good.  Both AVG and Sophos have a centrally managed console.  Here is a link for info on AVG and I attached their discount order form. http://avgantivirus.com/edu-downloads

Another thing to look at is the time you and Monty are spending on the AV's.  A good AV will pay for itself the first year in time saved with both of you.

Goal 3 - Access
