INTRO

There is nothing wrong with poster board projects. But, let's face it. They are sometimes messy, take up a lot of room, often cost students money to produce, and not all kids are "poster makers". This session explores differentiating learning by using technology options. Note: Learning can be differentiated in many ways -  content, process, product, environment, etc. However, this session focuses on student products. Most of the resources can also be used by teachers to present material.

When we dine out, we have choices. When we go shopping, we have choices. When we watch TV, we have choices. There are times when it is appropriate to give students choices in how they show us what they know.

CHOICES

A popular way to give students a choice in their products is to use choice boards or learning menus. These tools allow teachers to differentiate by learning styles, interest, and readiness. Some of the most popular versions of these are shown below. Click HERE for templates and examples.

  • Tic-Tac-Toe or Think-Tac-Toe
  • Menu
  • Baseball Game (the baseball example can be found in this pdf - MeaningfulMenus.pdf )

PRODUCTS

There are unlimited products that students can create to show mastery of a concept.

Today, we will focus on several technology resources that will give you options when presenting material and your students options to show you what they know. The idea is to mix technology options with more traditional options to create a learning menu that fits your curriculum frameworks and gives your students choices.
